KRA Memo to TSC after only 190,176 out 406,084 Teachers filed Tax Returns

FILING OF 2024 INCOME TAX RETURNS.
The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) appreciates your valued contribution in Kenya’s revenue mobilization and economic sustainability. As one of the largest
employers in Kenya, KRA seeks to partner with you to send a helpful reminder to your employees that they have until 30th June, 2025 to file their annual income tax return to avoid penalties and interest.
KRA records indicate that the Teachers Service Commission Secretariat PAYE in December 2024 captured 406,084 employees on the payroll. Out of these, only 190,176 which translates to 46.83%, have filed their Individual Income Tax returns for the year 2024 as at 4th June 2025. Please aim to achieve 100% returns from all staff on your payroll. Failure to file the individual income tax return by 30th June, 2025 will attract a penalty of Kshs. 2,000 or 5% of the tax due, whichever is higher.
KRA is also pleased to inform you that the Government of Kenya is offering a Tax Amnesty for outstanding penalties and interest. Your employees are encouraged to take advantage of this amnesty.
There will be no other opportunity for waiver of penalties and interest from 1st July 2025.
