The history of Darajani Boys High School (officially registered as Darajani Secondary School) is rooted in the growth of educational infrastructure in the Kibwezi East region of Makueni County.
»Origins and Evolution
- Establishment: The school was founded to serve the growing population in the Mtito Andei area. While it began as a local initiative to provide accessible education, it has evolved into a significant Day and Boarding institution.
- The “Boys” Designation: Although many official government databases list the school as “Mixed,” it is widely recognized and branded locally as Darajani Boys. This often happens when a school transitions from mixed to single-sex or maintains a dominant boarding section for boys.
- Geography: The school occupies approximately 50 acres of land. This large acreage was intentionally secured during its founding to allow for future expansion of laboratories, dormitories, and sports fields.
»Identity and Philosophy
As you noted, the school operates under a powerful and cautionary philosophy:
- Motto: “Knowledge is Liberty. Ignorance is Fatal.”
- Colors: The school identity is visually defined by a combination of Green and Cream, which is reflected in the school gate and often integrated into the student uniforms.
»Role in the Region
Darajani boys high school serves as a critical academic hub between the larger towns of Makindu and Mtito Andei. It is part of a network of schools in Makueni.
The school is known for its discipline and its focus on “Service,” aiming to produce graduates who are not only knowledgeable but also ready to contribute to the community.
